Anthracite stoneware with white grog, iron oxide, transparent glaze
A small cup shaped for a quiet coffee or tea ritual. The anthracite clay body carries white grog - a texture that stays visible even under the glaze, not smoothed away.
Process
Wheel-thrown, then trimmed and refined by hand. A band of iron oxide applied over the clay, then a transparent glaze - not to cover the colour underneath, but to let it show through, with a sheen close to coal where the oxide sits. Only the foot, where the piece touched the kiln shelf, stays bare. Capacity approximately 150ml. One of a kind - shaped by hand, so no two cups come out quite the same.
